Step by step
How to make your janam kundli online for free, step by step
A free kundli takes two minutes to cast, and most of the care goes into the birth details. Graha Darpan publishes this guide, and our generator is one of those described, so weigh it as you would any host's advice.
The short answer
You can make your janam kundli online for free at grahadarpan.com/reading, with no account. Enter your date of birth, the exact time from your birth certificate or hospital record, and the town where you were born, then cast. You get the chart, the Vimshottari dasha timeline, yogas and today's forecast. AstroSage, Drik Panchang and Prokerala are other free online kundli generators worth using. Whichever you use, the exact birth time matters most.
What any free birth chart calculator online needs from you
Every generator, ours included, works from the same three facts.
- Date of birth. Our form takes it as DD/MM/YYYY, or from a calendar.
- Exact time of birth. Copy it from the birth certificate or hospital record, not memory, and note morning or night. The lagna moves about one degree every four minutes.
- Place of birth. The town where you were born, not where you live now. It fixes the latitude, the longitude and the time zone.
Making your kundli on Graha Darpan, in five steps
- Open the form at grahadarpan.com/reading. It needs no account or card, and the language switch at the top changes it to Hindi or Marathi.
- Have an old kundli? Tap “Fill from your kundli (PDF or photo)” and choose the PDF or a photo of its first page. The form fills itself for you to check. Nothing is cast until you confirm, and the file is not kept.
- Otherwise type the details and pick the birth town from the list, which covers 140,000 places with historical time zones. For an unlisted village, choose “Enter coordinates instead”.
- Read the time zone note under the place, such as “Time of birth is read as local time in Asia/Kolkata, not your current timezone.” Enter the time the clock showed where you were born.
- Tick the consent box on your first cast and press “Cast the kundli”.

How to read the first screen of your kundli
Three things carry most of a first reading. On a phone, tap Details to see them.
- The lagna. The caption under the chart names its sign and degree. The top centre diamond is the first house, marked La, and the numbers in the chart are signs, 1 for Aries to 12 for Pisces.
- Moon sign and nakshatra. The card called The moment lists both, with the pada, and the UTC offset used for your birth time.
- The current dasha. The Vimshottari card opens with “Now running”, naming the mahadasha, the antardasha and the date it ends.
What each means is explained in what a janam kundli is and how to read yours.
Five mistakes that give a wrong kundli
Most “wrong kundli” complaints come from the input. Take one sample birth, 15 August 1990, 10:30 in the morning, Mumbai, and change one detail at a time.
| What was entered | Lagna | Moon nakshatra |
|---|---|---|
| 10:30 AM in Mumbai, correct | Virgo 26°18' | Rohini |
| 10:30 PM, AM and PM swapped | Aries 3°38' | Mrigashira |
| 10:30 AM, Kolkata typed instead | Libra 9°50' | Rohini |
- AM and PM swapped. Twelve hours moves the lagna into another part of the zodiac and the Moon six or seven degrees, here enough to change the birth star and every dasha date. On a 24 hour clock, 10:30 at night is 22:30.
- The wrong city. Each degree of longitude is four minutes of sky. Kolkata is about fifteen degrees east of Mumbai, so the slip equals roughly an hour's mistake in the time.
- Births abroad and daylight saving. Many countries move their clocks in summer. Enter the time exactly as the certificate shows and let the calculator apply that day's offset. Never subtract an hour yourself. Graha Darpan uses the historical time zone database.
- India's war time. From October 1941 to 15 May 1942, and again from 1 September 1942 to 15 October 1945, Indian clocks ran at UTC+6:30, an hour ahead of today's IST. For 10 March 1944 at 06:00 in Delhi, the correct offset gives a Capricorn 22°37' lagna, and a calculator assuming UTC+5:30 gives Aquarius 12°03'. It makes a quick test of any calculator.
- An unknown time. A guessed 06:00 or 12:00 gives a provisional lagna. The Moon's nakshatra usually holds, but the houses move and the dasha dates shift by months per hour of doubt.

Other free online kundli generators in India
Several good generators are free. These notes reflect their sites in October 2026.
- AstroSage offers six ayanamsas, including Lahiri, Raman, KP and Sayan, North or South Indian charts, and English plus thirteen other languages. It says its free software gives a report of more than 50 pages.
- Drik Panchang is built around its panchang and suits people who like to choose every setting, with four ayanamsa options, mean or true Rahu and Ketu, four chart styles and divisional charts from D1 to D60 on its kundali page.
- Prokerala has a clean free kundli in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, in North, South or East Indian format, with the Navamsa and Vimshottari dasha, but no ayanamsa choice.
Plainly, Graha Darpan draws only the North Indian chart, uses only Lahiri and offers three languages. For the South Indian square, KP, Raman, Tamil or Bengali, choose one of these. We add an AI Jyotishi that answers from your computed positions, without advertisements.
Common questions
Where can I make my janam kundli online for free?
At grahadarpan.com/reading, with no account, you get the chart, dasha timeline, yogas and today's forecast. AstroSage, Drik Panchang and Prokerala are free too. Cast on two with the same settings and check the lagna agrees.
Can I get a free janam kundli with predictions?
Yes, within limits. Today's forecast and a Key dates card for the next two years come free with the chart. Longer forecasts and questions to the AI Jyotishi use credits, and new accounts start with up to 12 free.
Can I make a kundli if I don't know my birth time?
Yes, but treat the lagna and houses as provisional. The Moon's nakshatra usually holds across a few hours, so read from the Moon sign. Dasha dates shift by months per hour of doubt.
Should I enter my birth place or the city I live in now?
The birth place, always. A kundli is the sky over the place you were born. Another city changes the latitude, longitude and sometimes the time zone, and the lagna with them.
Why is my online kundli different from the one our pandit made?
Check the input first, since a different time, city or AM and PM reading changes the lagna. Then compare the ayanamsa and house system, usually named on a printed kundli. With the same input and settings, careful calculators agree closely.
